Butter Dish, butter barrel, lustrous green & yellow, Lidded Dish
A gorgeous wheel thrown Butter Barrel finished in a beautiful lustrous green and yellow. The glaze has a luminous quality to it and really has to be seen in person to be fully appreciated.
Starting from a ball of clay, this was wheel-thrown and altered using white stoneware clay in my cosy studio in Wiltshire, UK. The handle was pulled in the traditional way and then joined to the dish using the score and slip method. After bisque firing the dish was glazed in several layers of reactive glazes to create the beautiful depth.
Twice fired by oxidation upto 1200°C to reach vitrification so that it is fully robust. The base is sanded smooth to protect the surface it is placed upon. Each piece is made by me, one by one and will be totally unique.
Dishwasher safe, although to prolong its life, washing by hand is recommended.
This butter barrel will *almost* fit a whole Lurpack butter (250g size).
OUTER DIMENSIONS, incl. handle (max.): L x W x H: 11.8cm x 10.5cm x 13cm (4.7" x 4.15" x 5.12") approx.
